(23.11.2018) The quarter finals took place in the all-glass portable squash court in Hong Kong Park Sports Centre today. Sarah-Jane Perry and Joelle King will make the first appearance in the semi-finals of Everbright Sun hung Kai Hong Kong Squash Open 2018 as they stunned the World No.1 Nour El Sherbini and World No.3 Nour El Tayeb.
Sarah-Jane Perry produced a massive upset to deny Nour El Sherbini a consecutive title in Hong Kong. Sherbini took the early lead in the first and third game, Perry fought back twice to level up and went all the way in the fifth to claim the victory at 7-11, 11-7, 11-13, 11-8, 11-5.
Another upset in the women’s draw provided by Joelle King who overcame the third seed Nour El Tayeb in a straight game. Sarah-Jane Perry and Joelle King will set up the semi-finals clash tomorrow.
The home favourites, Joey Chan ended her incredible run in Hong Kong after being down to Raneem El Welily who will regain the World No.1 spot next month. Raneem El Welily will meet her fellow Egyptian Nouran Gohar who saw off the French No.1 Camile Serme in another thrilling five setters.
There is no upset in the men’s draw, defending champion Mohamed Elshorbagy recovered from a game down against Kiwi Paul Coll to reach his fourth semi -finals in Hong Kong. Elshorbagy will face Tarek Momen who survived from five games against Mohamed Abouelg har.
After an epic 99 minutes of marathon, Simon Rosner from Germany clinched the eventual victory after edging past a long tie break 18-16 in fifth against the Colombia Cannonball Miguel Angel Rodriguez to reach his first semi-finals in Hong Kong. He will line up with Ali Farag for the second men’s semi-finals, a repeat of the 2018 Qatar Classic final. Ali Farag knocked out his fellow Egyptian Karim Abdel Gawad in four games.
