(25.11.2018) An incredible week of Everbright Sun Hung Kai Hong Kong Squash Open 2018 came to an end after two nail-biting matches were demonstrated in front of the packed crowds, hundreds of spectators witnessed Joelle King and Mohamed Elshorbagy to crown at the four sided glass court in Hong Kong Park Sports Centre this year.
The fifth seed Joelle King of New Zealand made her debut appearance in Hong Kong Open Final against the “soon to be” World No.1 Raneem El Welily today. The in-form and determined Joelle King led all the way to take the opening game at 11-4, The Egyptian, who knocked out her compatriot Nouran Gohar in five –setters to the final, came closer in the second, but King managed to keep her solid performance to take the following two “tie break” at 12-10 and 19-17 to capture her maiden PSA Platinum Event title in Hong Kong.
In the men’s final, it was also a repeat of last year, the third-time champion Mohamed Elshorbagy retained his title in Hong Kong after dispatching his fellow Egyptian and second seed Ali Farag at a straight game at 11-6,11-7 and 11-7.
The Prize Presentation Ceremony was followed after the men’s final. Hong Kong Squash Chairman Mr. Duncan Chiu, delivered his speech and expressed his sincere gratitude to the sponsors and all the supports throughout the week. Mr. Chiu along with Mr. Yeung Tak Keung, JP, Commissioner for Sports, Home Affair Bureau and Dr. Li Bingtao, Executive Director & CEO of Everbright Sun Hung Kai presented the trophies to the winners in the ceremony.
