Diego Elias
Description
Peruvian Diego Elias is one of the most gifted players on the world tour, and has already made history by becoming the sport's first South American world no.1. After joining the world tour in 2013, Elias would lift his first title a year later at the Regatas Resistencia Open-Tour De Las Americas where he stunned the crowd despite being a wildcard entry. In doing so, Elias became the first Peruvian to win a world tour title. Elias started 2022 in perfect fashion, claiming the Sturbridge Capital Motor City Open and added to his title tally later in the season though, with an incredible run at the Necker Mauritius Open as he came through the entire gold level tournament without dropping a game. His great form continued in the latter part of the year. He won the U.S. Open in Philadelphia, along with making the Hong Kong Open final to end 2022. The Peruvian started 2023 with an unbeaten run of 15 matches, claiming his second major of the season by winning the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions, before then winning the Sturbridge Capital Motor City Open and the Pittsburgh Open as well. Thanks to a runner-up finish at the British Open, Elias made history. He became the sport’s first ever South American world no.1 before finishing the campaign with a semi-final at the El Gouna International.
