Hong Kong Squash Open Returns in August for a Sporting Summer

(11.07.2016) Sports fans will be getting a lavish treat this summer!

While the Summer Olympic will take place in Rio de Janeiro from early to mid-August, the 2016 Cathay Pacific Sun Hung Kai Financial Hong Kong Squash Open, one of the most popular events in the local sports calendar, will keep the momentum for the fans.

Unlike previous versions, the World Series of both the men’s and women’s competition will move forward in the calendar this year, taking place on August 21-28 just right after the sporting extravaganza in Brazil.

Top class squash players from all over the world will again perform their superb skills in front of the lovers of the sport in Hong Kong, from the preliminary rounds at the Football Club in Happy Valley to the main draw at the Squash Centre in Admiralty with the finale to take place at the adjacent Hong Kong Park.

Presented by Hong Kong Squash for the 31st year, the annual event is one of the tournaments with the longest history in the world which has always been the top choice for leading professionals. Thanks to the generous support from title sponsors Cathay Pacific and Sun Hung Financial and many other co-sponsors, the total prize money has increased to US$265,000 this year.

Each year, a large overseas contingent will also accompany the players to Hong Kong, adding more international colours to the event.

In addition, fans will be able to watch the competition through a glass court from the quarter-finals stage this year. With action just from a few metres out, this is going to be a great opportunity for the audience to appreciate true athleticism and speed of the game.

Tickets will be available on July 21 with prices ranging from HK$80 to HK$450 prime seats. Admission is free for the preliminary rounds. For details, please visit our official website www.hksquashopen.com.
