Cathay Pacific Sun Hung Kai Financial Hong Kong Squash Open 2016 has come to a successful end after two incredible great squash demonstrated in front of the festive crowds at the four sided glass court. Over 700 audiences witnessed Nouran Gohar and Ramy Ashour to triumph this year.
The women's final came first today with featuring the current World Junior Champion, 18 years old Nouran Gohar who beat the ten time champion Nicol David to come through to the final last night and the American Amanda Sobhy who saw off the world no.1 Nour El Sherbini in the semis. The opening game started as fierce as expected in which Sobhy quickly took the lead at 11-6 however Gohar managed to fight back hard and save some crucial points to level the game at 1-all. Since then Gohar dominated the game with full confidence to assure her first champion title in the World Series Event by winning over at 6-11, 12-10, 11-7, 11-8.
In the men’s final, the two-time Hong Kong Open Champion and former No.1 Ramy Ashour from Egypt defeated his compatriot Karim Abdel Gawad in recovering from the five game thriller at 11-9,8-11,11-6,5-11,11-6 to capture his third title in Hong Kong. "It is really amazing to win another title here. It all depends of how much you want it, and I always wanted it so much." said by the joyful Artist.
The Prize Presentation Ceremony was followed after the men’s final. Mr. David Mui, MH, JP, Chairman, Hong Kong Squash delivered his gratitude to all the supporting parties and along with the honorable guests including Mr. Yeung Tak Keung, JP, Commissioner for Sports, Home Affair Bureau , Mr. Dane Cheng, Director of Sales and Marketing, Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd., Mr. William Leung, SBS, BBS, JP, Chief Executive Officer of Sun Hung Kai Financial, Mr. William Ko, BBS, MH, Chairman, Major Sports Events Committee, Mr. Simon Tang, Corporate Resources Director of Fujiphoto Products Co. Limited and Mr. Alex Gough, Chief Executive Officer of Professional Squash Association to present the trophies to the winners.
