(21.8.2016) The new squash season begins with Cathay Pacific Sun Hung Kai Financial Hong Kong Squash Open 2016 today at Hong Kong Football Club.
The first stop of the World Series debuts with all the thirty-one matches in the Men's and Women’s Qualifying Round One featuring the Hong Kong promising players, the home crowds were pleased to witness Tong Tsz Wing and Liu Tsz Ling easing through to the next round.
In the women’s event, Tong Tsz Wing took the first win of the day with a comfortable straight games over the Aussie Christine Nunn at 11-6, 11-0 and 11-5 to meet the first seed Nicolette Fernandes in the round two tomorrow while Liu Tsz Ling followed after her by defeating Menna Nasser of Egypt at a straight as well at 11-0, 11-6 and 11-4. She will compete against Sarah Cardwell of Australia in the second round.
Another highlight in the women’s draw went to the former world No.5, Low Wee Wern from Malaysia who also sailed through to the round two. “I expected it would be a hard match with Misaki Kobayashi so I am happy to win in four and I am getting used to playing the high level squash.” Low commented after match. She will be meeting Millie Tomlinson from England in the round two.
Meanwhile, there is no upset in the men’s draw today, all the seeded players including Omar Abdel Meguid and Gregoire Marche safely passed through to the second round.
Eight qualifiers in each draws will be decided tomorrow, the second round matches will be continued at 1:30pm at Hong Kong Football Club with Free Admission, you all are welcome to support the players on courts.
