Liu Tsz Ling joins the line up in main draw

(22.08.2016) The men’s and women’s qualifying rounds are completed today after two days of matches with eight qualifiers in each draw are decided in the first World Series event in the new season at the Hong Kong Football Club. Liu Tsz Ling is the only home qualifier progressed to the main event, it makes Hong Kong have seven players in total to compete in the main draw this year.

The world No. 29, Liu Tsz Ling survived from the tough see saw games that took 67 mins to complete against Sarah Cardwell of Australia. They led one way then the other in which Liu came back to level at 12-10 in the fourth, then she managed to finish better to secure her place in the main draw at 7-11, 11-9, 11-13, 12-10 and 12-10. “My performance is not as good as I expected, and the opponent is well prepared so I have to pull very hard to win.”

Another home interests, Tong Tsz Wing failed to ease past the seed No.1 Nicolette Fernandes by losing in a four games.

The men's and women's main draws will start with the top half tomorrow at 12noon at Hong Kong Squash Centre. For the men's, the top seed and the world number one Mohamed Elshorbagy will meet Chris Simpson from England at 7pm, while the local favourites, Yip Tsz Fung and Leo Au will meet the third seed Miguel Angel Rodriguez from Colombia at 3pm and Cameron Pilley from Australia at 8pm at Centre Court. 

In the women's draw, Joey Chan will start the top half playing against the seed no.7 Amanda Sobhy at 12 noon whereas we will see Annie Au to meet the local qualifier Liu Tsz Ling in the first round tomorrow at 5pm.The world No.1 Nour El Sherbini will also feature her fellow Heba El Torky at 6pm in the top half.
